LITTER LOVE: How can you refuse?
On Friday 12th February, in the run-up to Valentines Day, Litter Love is offering people the opportunity to find their perfect ‘carbon’ date.
Cardiff Council’s Student Liaison Officer, Kieran McCann has teamed up with Tidy Towns during Go Green Week in a bid to clean up Cathays and encourage people to ‘fall in love with your climate’. Kieran is hoping to attract volunteers, single or attached, to assist with a litter pick.
The event includes a free option to join the first ever Speed Dating Litter Pick. This works just like any speed dating event, but with a tiny twist….you get matched up for your dates according to your carbon footprint. Picking in pairs you get two minutes to impress before volunteers switch around. You get to have a great time, meet some new people, and hopefully find somebody you want to reduce your carbon footprint with at the end of the day!
Councillor Judith Woodman, Deputy Leader, Communities, Housing and Social Justice said: “I hope people will enjoy this fun event whilst benefitting the local community. This initiative will help reduce litter on our streets as well as encouraging people to think about climate change.”
Indeg Jones, Cardiff Tidy Towns Officer for Keep Wales Tidy, said: “Litter on our streets is a serious problem but by bringing an element of fun and possibly romance to the equation people might be more encouraged to get out there and join in. A speed dating litter pick is a first for Keep Wales Tidy and we are hoping the whole event will be littered with love.”
Volunteers should meet at Cardiff Students Union, Senghennydd Road at 3pm on Friday 12th February.
All equipment for the litter pick will be provided including litter pickers, bin liners, guidelines and a safety talk will be provided. Please bring your own gloves, waterproofs and sensible footwear.
